Of course, it’s still a good idea to check out these tips on improving fuel efficiency so you can make the most of your fuel economy on Elmhurst and Addison roads. 5 Simple Ways to Improve Your Gas Mileage

Coast to a Stop

Allowing your vehicle to coast to a stop when it’s safe to do so is an effective way to improve gas mileage. When driving on hills, gradually accelerate uphill and take your foot off the gas once you reach the top to let your vehicle’s forward momentum take you downhill.

Roll Up Windows on the Highway

While it’s true that your car’s AC needs fuel to run, there are still instances where it is more efficient to use your AC than drive with the windows down. If you’re driving on the highway, for example, it’s a good idea to roll up your windows and use your AC instead. Driving with your windows down at high speeds creates more wind resistance, thus forcing your vehicle to work harder and burn through more fuel.

Avoid Stop-and-Go Traffic

If you’ve ever been caught in stop-and-go traffic in Villa Park, you know it involves a lot of braking, accelerating, and idling – all of which burn through more fuel and put stress on your vehicle’s drivetrain. That said, plan your trips ahead of time to search for alternative routes and try to leave for your destination at least 15 minutes early to beat rush hour traffic.

Accelerate Slowly

Another easy way to improve your gas mileage is by accelerating slowly. A good rule of thumb is to take approximately five seconds to reach 10 mph from a standstill. Gunning it as soon as the light turns green will burn through an unnecessary amount of fuel.

Avoid High Speeds

Cars are most efficient when driving between 55 and 65 mph. So, refrain from “putting the pedal to the metal,” and always follow the speed limit. The faster you drive, the lower your fuel economy gets.
