The new Ford Bronco has already made a lasting impression on Elmhurst-area drivers. This classic Ford SUV evokes the rugged outdoors, and it offers the kind of go-anywhere capability that today’s Bronco fans adore. All of this stems from the early Ford Bronco, which set the stage for what’s now available at Roesch Ford. Discover Ford Bronco history to understand how far this model has come.
Where does Ford Bronco history begin? With the introduction of the early Ford Bronco in 1965. It was originally developed as a passenger-friendly, off-road vehicle with a completely unique chassis, and it featured an inline-6 engine rated at 105 hp. What’s more, the early Ford Bronco didn’t have flashy style. It presented as a no-nonsense vehicle that could stand up to the test of the great outdoors with a genuine utilitarian appeal.
Following the early Ford Bronco model, there came several more iterations. Check out the list of old Ford Bronco models below.
The second-generation Ford Bronco carries over the style of the early Ford Bronco, but there were still a variety of updates. These include replacing the chassis with an adaptation from the Ford F-Series, extending the wheelbase by 12 inches, and limiting configurations to only a three-door wagon.
By 1980, a new version of the old Ford Bronco was introduced. Despite being smaller and lighter than the second-generation model, this Ford Bronco still maintained its full-size classification.
A new and unique line came forth when the Ford Bronco II was released, just three years after the third-generation Ford Bronco. The Ford Bronco II was eventually replaced by the Ford Explorer.
Interior and exterior updates were the name of the game for the fourth-generation Ford Bronco. Also noteworthy was the Silver Anniversary Edition — the very first early Ford Bronco model offered with leather seating.
The fifth and final build of the old Ford Bronco occurred in 1992, with limited changes and the addition of certain safety features. With the fifth-generation Ford Bronco also came the discontinuation of the classic removable hard top.
